Chino trousers are an essential part of a man's wardrobe. Discreet yet chic, they elongate the silhouette for maximum style. But they have recently been adapted for women, adding a touch of elegance to your wardrobe. Don't know how to wear them? This is the place to find out !
The history of chino trousers dates back to 1858. At that time, the British army invaded Pakistan with Indian troops. At the head of the army, the British officer Sir Harry Lumsden ordered his troops to change their uniforms, which were considered too bright. He opted for light, hard-wearing cotton trousers that were dyed khaki to go unseen. Little by little, these cotton twill trousers were adopted by the American army stationed in the Philippines.
Imported directly from China, they officially took the name "chino" which means Chinese in Spanish. Much more comfortable and light than the initial woolen uniform, the chino then joined all army corps, including those of the navy. But it was not until the end of the Second World War that the military surplus was finally sold to the population. And it was a great success, as chinos are particularly discreet and adaptable to all occasions. They even literally changed the history of fashion in the 1960s as they adorned James Dean, Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen! And that's how they became THE basic essential of the male wardrobe.
Made from cotton, chino trousers are very light and comfortable. The small pockets at the back are partially hidden, which makes them very classy as they do not weigh down the figure. What's more, their navy blue, beige, black or olive green colour range makes them suitable for all shapes and almost all styles. Sometimes casual, sometimes sportswear, they provide men with a maximum of style to emphasise their figure. But they can also be worn by women and add ultimate class to any outfit.
Whether for a woman's or a man's wardrobe, chino trousers can add a touch of chic to your outfit. You can also wear them in a casual way, perfect for a summer look. In short, here’s how to match them to your wardrobe !
Perfect for all occasions, chino trousers and their contrasting colours are easy to wear. To make sure you stay in tune, you can pair them with a shirt for an all-round style. For example, a navy blue chino with a white cotton shirt will be perfect for a casual chic style. You can also mix an olive green chino with a beige shirt for a perfect match. If you're worried about being a little chilly, don't hesitate to add a jacket that can accompany you to the office or in the evening. For an extra touch of casualness, choose a polo shirt or a V-neck t-shirt and pair it with a blazer. What about shoes? It all depends on the outfit! Trainers are ideal for a casual touch or loafers for a semi-formal style.
For a feminine wardrobe, the 7/8 cut chino trousers will do the trick for a touch of elegance! To accessorise, go for pumps, a white shirt and a nice fitted jacket. For sportswear, traditional khaki chinos will work wonders with a pair of white or coloured sneakers, to be chosen according to your taste. To accompany you with ease during the day, you can opt for slightly more yellow-coloured trousers as soon as the sun comes out. With suede boots and a basic white t-shirt, this is a look that will certainly not go unnoticed! Finally, in the summer, pastel shades are the order of the day. For a holiday by the sea, all you need is a sailor jumper, a nice straw hat and some pretty sandals !
